Death lurked over the sky
Making everything look dull and gloomy,
The clouds laden, so dark and heavy
A mysterious air surrounded his soul;
The gale danced merrily among the dewdrops
The scenery looked as if it mocked him,
As the clouds in his orb were unleashed
A strife begane between his heart and mind;
He stared yonder, the green freedom line
The mountain pass with which he’d leave Kashmir behind.
He clutched his shirt above his pounding chest
As the wind carresed his face with icy fingers
He saw ahead spring...
He would leave autumn behind
He saw ahead what he saw in his dreams
Away from the reality of where he stood
But then he glanced behind
Hateful silence hung in every corner
Revenge, lies, distrust and decieve
Whimpering children, wailing mothers, bloody youths... the sacrifice.
His heart screamed silently, ‘retreat’
Defeated his mind consented,
With a sob, he sank down on his knees...
As the last saalty drop rolled down his cheek,
He looked at the heavens and closed his eyes
Then he whispered that he had realized,
This was where he was born
It was here that he was to die,
He picked up his weapons, a new light in his eyes
He marched back with a feeling of belonging and pride,
Marched back to win oer his dreams
Make reality of his dream, the way all alond it should have been.
You can bled a soldiers body to death, torture his mind to madness, shake his faith but you can never break him. Such are the Kashmiri fighters!
