One hundred ninety-days
in the field I tried to heal my sick plant.
Confusion seared my face and pain
delved way deep within my heart as I
dug fingers into momma earth
trying to grow her back again.
Sun burned my dark skin so I placed
a hat on my head for protection.
Some days heavy rains came my way again, but
I used the corn stalks to keep my face clear of it.
When I first tried to plant her she was
so stubborn, didn’t even want to sink deep in the earth,
but I kept on working with her.
Gave her water.
Gave her love.
Gave her all of me and asked God for directions to heal her body.
No fruits were ever bore so I kept on
planting little seeds of hope just like Momma told me.
Then inspiration came in the form of
a fruit to her once ailing body.
She was as stubborn as a horse
giving birth to a new baby.
Every day I would visit after school and
she was growing, little by little, and I smiled!
I just knew my work was not in vain.
Even though some days there was no
real rain, and clouds stormed her way, she
would survive.
One day I smiled when I saw little legs
sprouting out of her fragile body.
The body that was once racked with no
life.
The body that was so lifeless that I cried helplessly some times.
One day I groaned when I noticed someone
had tried to kill my little fruit.
So I took her inside to get a little growth
and after months of giving her more love
she survived.
Gave her light.
Gave her love.
Gave her all of me.
In the field she grew day by day.
In the field she smiled my way with newness.
In the field I prayed on my knees to her.
In the field I gave her my life secrets.
The secrets I never even told Mommy.
I knew that she’d never betray me.
This I knew was oh so true !
In my heart I knew she would be forever
the beautiful part of me that I nurtured
and grew.
She is me.
The me that I must never forget.
The me that must be nurtured.
The me that is appreciated by some.
The me that is important to God and
his angels.
In the field sometimes I have to gain strength
to get through the day but god always brings his love my way.
He lets me see a bright new day.
Gives me love unconditional.
Gives me what I need.
Gives me the plants and fruits to bear
from season to season in his field of love
and life.
