Gethsemane
Atop the Mount of Olives
I stand in the Garden of Gethsemane
Staring in awe at giant olive trees, some over 2000-years old
Their trunks gnarled and weathered, but still alive
These trees would have existed in the time of Jesus!
It is here that Jesus and His disciples came after supper in the Upper Room!
As I wait in line to circle the garden, I read about Jesus in Gethsemane
I imagine Him and His disciples on that awful night He was betrayed
I imagine Him praying, while the disciples slept
I imagine Him in agony, then being strengthened by the angel!
Oh, how He must have anguished over what was ahead
For He knew why He came, and what was yet to come!
He could have commanded an army of angels to rescue Him
In fact, He could have rescued Himself
But He didn’t, He couldn’t, He wouldn’t;
What He did was for our sake,
Though we did nothing to deserve it!
My eyes well up!
“As the Father knoweth Me, even so know I the Father:
And I lay down My life for the sheep.”
[John 10:15]
Be always safe,
