A reflection in verse on a fondly remembered love affair, the energy of being young and the magic of a beautiful setting. This poem tells of a long ago summer love affair that took place during a summer spent with friends in New York State the poem reminds readers that though life moves on the experience and the love stay with us forever In those days America was a kinder, less dangerous place...
I still love you on summer mornings
remembering the way you would stand by
the window to greet the Appalachian light
Delirious dust-motes danced in your aura,
Cool green sunlight filtered by tall trees
dappled your body as you we ran
to the pond where voyeuristic squirrels
watched and preoccupied birds ignored
our growing love. We smelled of grass
and earth, made friends and discoveries,
Offered our love up to the sky and
rejoiced too short a time in freedom
before the pious world recalled our names
and annulled our irreligious marriage
A search for the ghost of a chorus girl chorine haunting a costume designer’s Manhattan apartment leads to an encounter with an eccentric, mischievous witch with the ability to send folks back through time…in this case, the 1919 Ziegfeld Follies.
