There have been many before me that sat at the banks of the Mississippi,
they’re souls now flow with the water rapidly over the boulders that sit silent,
You have reason to believe me because I saw Medgar Evers fishing one early Saturday morning as I looked for
A quiet spot to relax,
“Don’t let your voice fade into the moonlight,” he said
“If you remain silent your heart will sink into your backside and your tears
will unfortunately turn red.”
I stood behind him watching the sky glow and the fish that glided through the water sparkle,
“You are a man of color, you have talent,”
“Your skin can’t get any darker.”
I couldn’t help but stand in amazement and think about those words Mr. Evers had said,
As he turned around and looked up at me,
“Here have a seat, let me tell you about the march I led,”
