Sometimes near dawn,
I awake from a sudden dream,
a drifting gossamer sigh
that makes me stir in pain;
flotsam of a wrecked desire,
drifts and bobs in my mind and eyes
and the miles are not between
as decades disappear;
as logs strewn on a jagged road
shimmering like a mirage,
thoughts force my mind to stop
and a shudder runs through my heart.
then a glimmer of light through the drapes
breaks this unmagical spell
and in silent prayer I say,
I am glad for this life that I have
and that in it you're only a dream
that sometimes disturbs my dawn.
