I wrote 'To Witness Death' as I watched the live coverage on the television. So stunned was I that the words just appeared before me.

To Witness Death (Sept 11th)


I sit here silently staring

At my window into the world

My jaw gently hits the floor

And all the air has left the room



I see the greyness of this moment

In dust and smoke and death

And feel the pain surge as if we are one

But we are one, all one, with God



The flicker of flames dancing

Adds no beauty to this moment

A stunned, soul shattering moment

That takes my eyes further beyond belief



T’is not a Christmas scene I stare upon

But a cold moment of cowardness and callous

Of dust and debris blanketing the life it stole

Lives that held no value in other’s eyes



I sit here silently staring

At my window into the world

Hand over my mouth, afraid to speak

My cheeks splattered with tears

And I am conscious of the hairs on my head

My lips whisper in silence

“For God’s sake, no more”
