Hard to leave my kids at home and go to work. A very long time ago.
Cry face to face
baby bones in arms
needs his kindergarten dollar,
sweet sweet baby bones
wrapped in holy flesh.
Once a small fist
bumping milky bosom
yes baby yes
Oh well oh well.
One crow bad luck
Not again today!
Here I am
at your feet--
but the cat too is cold,
Lap to me come.
Opening door
to a new zone,
Leisureless, busy-busy.
7 a.m. bus stop,
Do it; just do it,
Office weary office

It's hard leaving children to go to the work world. But so necessary in this economy. You've described the hurt of a mother hating to leave her little ones so well.

There's struggle in this and anxiety and a great deal of love...the need to work, leave loved ones behind, the pain and worry of separation...you unfold them all tenderly and so personally it gives the poem a lasting richness.
Our generation saw the beginning of a whole new family composition. We as first children who saw our grandmother's as stay home Mom's to our mother's as part time workers to finally the majority of women needed to work to keep up with the rising cost of living. Great capture of the hard decisions mother's made and the separation anxieties that went along with it.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't - what to do? Heartbreaking choice, this necessary evil called work - as if a Mommy's job isn't hard, enough - well penned, Juliet.
