Virginia's my home and I love it. I’m not really moving anywhere, but my trip out west the early part of the month to visit my daughters was exhilarating, to say the least. If I were going out there, this is a song I might sing. BTW. that's a whole town at the base of the mountain in the accompanying pic.

Poem Artwork

East is pretty, but too dang wet,

Damp and humid, breathin’s hard,

And the biggest bugs you ever met,

Get in the house from out in th’ yard,

Can’t go walkin’ the woods about,

‘Less ticks you want to stick on you,

An’ chiggers to itch until you shout,

Swarmin’ gnats, an’ deer flies too.

Pack my bags for Albuquerque,

Cuttin’ a trail an’ headin’ West,

May seem t'you a bit too quirky,

But a big dry sky fits me th' best.

Look real close at what one sees,

With specks for cows and horses too,

Lonesome ranch in a bunch o’ trees,

Invitin t' me, through and through.

My bags’r bound for Albuquerque,

I’m settin’ sail an’ headin’ West,

May seem t'be a might too quirky,

But a western sky fits me th' best.

Desert’s got critters t’ be aware,

Tooth an’ claw some pain can bring,

‘Neath rocks an’ cactus hide their lair,

Spring to bite or stab their sting.

But pack my bags for Albuquerque,

Make a trail an’ head out West,

Leavin' where th' sky's too murky,

Big dry sky’s done passed my test.

YahoooooOO! Albuquerque!

YahoooooOO! Big ol' b'loon fest!

Sure seems a damn bit quirky,

But I got my bags, I'm headin’ west!

Great song! You can't help but sing it when you read it. And your rhythym is just right which is good so as not distracting to the reader or the ear if it was a listener. Excellent work.

LELAND - WELL DONE !

Maryland, like OLE VIRGINNY - has similar critters, but it's still my preference.

Western Mountains for hiking and skiing -
Eastern Shore for ocean and beaches -
Rivers, Lakes, Streams, Ponds for fishing -
Big City for cultural events -
Little Towns for rural excursions -
Farms, Historic sites to visit -
And More, more, more ...

YEP - Plant me down in Ole Baltimore!

But - you enjoy your "GIDDY-YUP" on some ole mule!

Peace - Tom.

Leland,

I like the way you "talked". Just like an old pioneer. I live out west and yes, it's quirky but it's the best!
