Memories They haunt and they inspire They remind us of the past and force us to consider the future We can't escape them, try as we may Sometimes they appear in our dreams Our memories can enslave us They can latch onto our heels and pull us under Our bodies start to deform and before long we are as ugly as those dark, miserable thoughts that won't leave us alone Sometimes our thoughts make us cry Sometimes our hearts ache so badly that we want to give up But thoughts can be uplifting, too They can come in and clear out a place and dominate all that is on our minds These memories are swell They make us whole, and full of glee Memories, good and bad, are accessed at the speed of thought We call on these memories and they fill our heads When we are down and miserable, why don't we fill our heads with happy thoughts?
