Follow close each move how it unfolds
The King and Queen have full control
The background a fortress they do share
Left, right and center a superlative pair

Kings and bishops, rooks, and pawns
Establish a defense move one or two
Maybe pawn one off ahead to move
If cheated there may arise some doubt
Another man goes hostage, taken out

Claim a space advance, direction clear
The rook a swindler to deceive the way
Straight across the line no men can share
A pair of Bishops secure diagonal flow
On this cross are no restrictions though

The noble guard their King and Queen
A knight stands high portraying honor
Side steps two his horse and forward one
To reverse those steps such a clever stride
Outwit opponent with each move implied

The queen of power now makes her move
Loose control each piece goes one by one
The king still remaining where he resides
No more men to fight ends up checkmate
