A forgotten pain has found me again
Drifting over from another life
Hunting me down through a far-traveled maze
A prologue to which I will always be bound
Sentiments squirm beneath the ice
Electrified and aglow with strife
Calling my name like a child in need
Making their nest at the back of my mind
I find myself searching familiar terrain
Sucking the dry pipe for inspiration
Timid to turn to those deadly emotions
Each one hot to the amateur’s touch
So I crawl inside of a sedative song
Pushing away from the voices of others
Fighting to keep my hungry eyes inward
Melancholic intentions withstanding
Lady luck finds me stubborn to teach
Arguing with my addiction to misery
She dusts me off and directs my gaze
To a trove of undiscovered possessions
Numbered moments then guide my rebirth
As I drink from the fountain of unbridled fortune
Free to explore the most heavenly pinnacles
Deaf to the hiss of a dwindling fuse
Just over hill… a new life, a new love
Waiting for me on a ship of redemption
Ready to sail into unspoken luxury
Leaving the dock as I fall far behind
A faithful return to old, jaded feelings
Tails my new brush with irrational fame
They welcome me home like a manifest sibling
The uglier twin that I left in the dark
A fragment of what I can still never have
Clenched in my hand as a mere souvenir,
I walk yet again down that tired old road
Renewed in the role I had pitied before
A storybook moral with jagged blade edges
Stings and then numbs, like ice to a wound
Release from the astigmatism of bliss
A lesson as rich as the joy once pursued
