Springtime croons, so softly said like Bible hymns to children spake
Tight-wound buds unfold to flowers, glacier fists unclench to lakes
The exodus of winter spirits sweeps away the snowy balm
Like Hera blowing dust of diamond from the desert of her palm
Pan alights upon a stump, his crooked legs so quaintly crossed
Piping swift arpeggios, as branches are by breezes flossed
Vines resume their hold on tree trunks, amber sap to fill their veins
Feral horses neck with winds, pollen sifting through their manes
Persephone, she samples trees in company of browsing deer
Friendly beasts will not be punished for naivety to fear
Her teeth begin to tingle as her tongue responds to sugars keen
For slowly saturates her mouth, the juices of a nectarine
Arachne weaves an anthem gold, her fingers dancing ‘cross a harp
Like spiders plucking lambent threads that glisten as the scales of carp
Her notes seduce the ears of beasts and call them to her meeting place
Fox and fowl and speckled fawn now quickened in their springtime pace
Athena prowls the orchards where betrothing thespians play their scenes
Cradled in her rugged dress, a bounty glistens apples green
In ling’ring here she hopes to bring her blessings to a lovers’ meet
A goddess has no other cause to search for that which mortals eat
Lantern hues divulge the dusk; the quickly spreading sunset yolk
A flick of a magician’s wrist; night blankets with a thieving cloak
The evening breeze assumes a chill of not so nearly winter grade
To rustle through the dappled reeds and riverbanks where love is made
A rising moon instills the waters guarded lone by sleeping swans
The sun submerged, now circling east with promises of warmer dawns
Orpheus now dips his pen to carry out a dreaming will
Another chamber of the lordly hourglass now left to fill
