We received our letters from G. Dubya Bush, just the other day
With that check for 1200 bucks with which to reenter the fray
Of consumerism; so that we can obtain the American dream
And buy what we’re told everyone wants. A 4 foot, plasma screen.
There were no instructions on what to do. Another decision to dread.
We gave Uncle Sam our money in April. Back now come crumbs of bread.
“It’s a spur to the economy”, George writes. It will start its engine up
But lately I lost my job. With regularity, my kids need to sup.
Dubya attended Harvard and Yale. Learned a lot. Studied economics
But missed the class on spreading the wealth. He learned only tricks
Of voodoo magic. This land can’t survive on TV pictures of food
The middle class needs steady jobs to permanently change its mood.
Harry Truman once said of economists in a moment of reflection,
“If you line ‘em all up for advice, they’ll point in a different direction.”
The government now seeks our help, to spur an economist’s scheme
“Give the people their own money back”. Is this some weird dream?
It is the spending that got us here. It is obvious to quite a few.
We spent money we didn’t have. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
Do your part, spend your money again! Let us see if this plan works,
It truly is voodoo finance containing several, monetary quirks.
What can I do with the 1200 bucks? Banking it I can’t defend.
I want to help my country. My obligation to it duly tend.
So what did I do with my vast largess? With its value declining quite fast,
I opted not to buy the plasma TV, but I filled my RV with gas.
