If I had three wishes
I would make good use of them
For I would change the world
And bring peace to all men.
I would give food to the hungry
And shelter to those without
That would use just one wish
And make things better without a doubt.
Then wish away natural disasters
Along with climate change
Repair the damage we have done
My second wish, for our planet I’d arrange.
But still man would fight against man
And ruin all the good things done
Destroying everything around them
Without the tiniest thought for anyone.
With my last wish should I wish
For every man to lay down their arms?
Would it bring peace and harmony
And finally rid the world of all ills and harms?
The truth is that it’d only take a while
Before man started to fight again
It seems to be our nature
To be an enemy rather than a friend.
Therefore wisely with my last wish
I would ask that we all teach
Our children how to love and forgive
So a positive future they may reach.
Very wise use of your three wishes, Pauline. And you are so right...I think people in war-time have often thought that particular world would be the last. We are flawed, as Mr. Ed says below, and more wars will always loom on the horizon until Jesus, the Prince of Peace, returns to rule the earth. What a wonderful government we will have then!

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.

It seems to be our nature

History teaches that this is so sadly true, and I often wonder if we humans are inherently flawed somehow. But I love your last stanza.
