A wife reflects on her husband's love of the grill, and how much she enjoys watching from the comfort of a lawn chair.

It’s warm outside, they swarm outdoors
To patio, to porch, to deck.
He says he wants to grill tonite—
So I say, “What the heck?”

It’s male ingrained, I’ve ascertained
The grill, the meat, the heat—
To better understand it, though
I’ll need a front row seat.

Ah, these lawnchair musings
He’ll never understand.
Much as I am oft perplexed
By the thrill of tongs in hand!

It makes no difference what the meal,
Chicken, beef, or fishes—
I suppose I should be grateful, for
It lessens dirty dishes!

Dear spouse of mine, YOU cook—that’s fine
Have a BLAST there, on the grill,
I have but one request of you,
Just make mine medium well!
