It was a cold and stormy night,
Fire place embers glowing bright,
Nestled in the cosy chair,
My cat was licking his mangy hair.
So weary was I, my wine remained unfinished,
Into a slumber I soon fell, the sound of rain
diminished,
Not long had I been dreaming,
When a knock came upon the door.
I grabbed my gown,
And turned the record player down,
Toffee apples I stuffed into my pockets,
Along with biscuits and milk chocolates.
Unlocking the bolt and turning the handle,
I gasped at the visitors lit up by my candle,
For there was a green witch with warts on her face
A vampire behind with a cloak of soft lace,
A ghoul craddled his own head in his palms,
And a monster stood there with no legs and no
Arms.
Wait a minute, No Legs! How can this be true ?
I moved my flame to bring the ground into view,
To my horror I realised none of them had any feet,
And were hovering about an inch off the street!
'What do you want?' I yelled in suprise,
Finding it hard to believe my own eyes,
' You can have all the candy that you desire!'
And began throwing sweets from my evening
Attire.
They chorused in menace 'It's too late in your
Case! We came last year and you slamed the door
In our face.'
'It was quite out of character, I had not been
Feeling well'
'Please take the candy, On the past lets not dwell.'
I screamed, shut the door and ran through the hall
The lights and candle flickered, then no light at all
My mantle piece and book shelf began to shake,
All I could do was stand there and quake.
My cat miaowed, growled and then barked,
I began crying alone in the dark.
Thankfully the haunting did not last,
And now is a traumatic memory from my past,
It took awhile to come back to my senses,
My pet is just his old self again,
But one thing will always be the case,
When October's creatures visit my place,
I make sure to have lots of goodies to eat,
So I am prepared when they question
' A Trick or a Treat?!'
This reminded me of the mistake I made in Glasgow way back when. I parked the car near Celtic Park. A lad came and asked if he could watch my car. Not familiar with the routine, I said no. Big mistake. I returned to broken windows and a stolen cassette player.
lest I be visited by the same unsettling dream, I too tend to stock up with sweets and pound coins (folk stocked threepenny bits when I was a kid - so much for inflation)
Well written - must have been to force a Scotsman to dip into his wallet - now that's a challenge!
Tasked by his Goddess to find, relocate, and then quicken, the last three Heart Tree gem-seeds, Vanx the bard, and his motley crew of adventurers, set out to do just that.
