This was written for a very special lady. She changed my life. Barbara Anderson. We lost Barbara from this World on June 10, 1998 from breast cancer. She will always be remembered!

I met her late in the spring one night,
a small beautiful girl with dark eyes.
When we held hands it seemed so right,
her smile gave my stomach butterflies.

She didn't ask for much, just closeness.
I said, "Sure, you can have all I've got."
So hugs and kisses grew into summer softness,
We went everywhere together and did a lot.

We did summer things like zoo's and fairs,
cantaloupe and corn on the cob with butter and salt.
Venice's boardwalk and all the vendors'  wears,
sucking on pieces of ice and chocolate balls with malt.

She introduced me to her family and friends.
The grand kids were so adorable and cute.
Beach cookouts with the Pacific Ocean winds,
trying on clothes, looking for a new bathing suit.

Mid-summer brought long days at the beach.
Watching movies at night and celebrating birthdays.
I felt love growing and something lasting just in reach.
But we don't always anticipate life and the tricks it plays.

Summer ended with Labor day and fireworks with a bang.
It had been great fun, surely it was arranged from above.
But sitting at home one night the phone rang.
She said, "It's over, it was only a summer love."

As we go through life day to day, year to year,
we are given many summers in each of our lives.
Some are filled with champagne and some with beer.
But, I'll always love the small girl with dark eyes.
