You did not wake up this morning.

My neighbor's son was almost 3 months old, a couple of days before Christmas and he died in his sleep. I wrote this poem for them.

You did not wake up this morning

I was gently awoken

by the blue birds

 this morning.

I looked out my bedroom window.

I was hypnotized by the presence of the effervescent blue sky and the clouds that drifted lightly by in whispers.

And on the ground the crumpled autumn leaves were covered in morning dew.

Then there was silence.

You did not cry for me.

The room grew cold.

The clouds covered the sun.

The birds halted their melodic tunes.

God had come to visit.

He carried you in your restless sleep to the journey home.

He walked softly along the way.

Offering you comfort and love.

He asked you not to look back.

We shed tears of sorrow of not having you to hold and watch you grow

into the child we so desperately wanted.

You did not wake up this morning.

God has carried you to his kingdom in the sky.

I know some day we will meet again.

The sadness felt it beyond expressable words. Never any understanding at the loss of an innocent life, especially so young.

Be safe,
Karen
