Dan Johnson

What would it be like?
Without these voices inside my head
I try in vain to sleep
Between the sheets of depression
I call my bed
~~
If I asked nicely,
Would you leave?
Would you pack your bag of tricks?
And finally let me breathe
Well, would you?
~~
My mind sits idled at the intersection of
Push and pull
While cacophonous sounds of horns and shrilling cries
Leave me…
empty

I love the phrase, "Between sheets of depression." Those voices grow louder and more persistent at night.
