A reflective poem about the ultimate sacrifice of Christ

As They Pierced His Palm ©2006
By J. Joy “Sistah Joy” Matthews Alford

Did Jesus first cry out
As they pierced His palm
Or did He look past that fateful morn
When that soldier crowned His brow with thorns

Did Jesus first cry out in pain
When they beat and spat on Him
When they split the universe wide
By thrusting that spear in his side

Or did my Jesus first cry out
As His eye beheld His mother
Whose devastation beyond mortal grief
Caused sorrow from His soul to be released

Did my Lord first cry out
When He felt the full weight of our sins
Felt the pain of His father’s love and grief
As He carried the Cross to Calvary

We praise Your name and seek Your face
Look upon our sin with shame and disgrace
We cry out to You and welcome You in
For great, dear Jesus, is the weight of our sin

We thank You for Your amazing grace
That allows You to love and forgive us
You are the Perfect Lamb who gave Your all
Even as they pierced Your palm

Fantastic! I can visually see and feel His pain. It is nothing like the real experience but your poem took me to a more spirtual level. You gave me MORE of an appreciation for our LORD.

I appreciate YOU for that!

GOD BLESS YOU Debra!

And what a price only Jesus could pay for a debt we had no ability to amend. For only if a seed is planted can it multiply into the earthen vessels meant to contain it. Thank you Sista Joy. Have a blessed spring.

That was very powerful!!! Sometimes we go through the day with all of our worries and forget about the love that we have from God to carry us through. Thank God that my small worries that make me cry! Don't come close to the many who beg for peace. Many blessing to you. Thank you for the willingness to do his work by spreading the one thing we take for granted. Forgiveness!

I wish I had the 'right' words to describe the impact of this upon my heart and soul, but I don't have any words. YOU said them all.

Thank you for such an inspirational write. There is a lot to think about - personally.
