Inspired by Bozena Happach’s steotite sculpture:Sphynx http://bohappach.com
[Originally named Things Change (a title I used previously on a short story)]
Felis silverstris catus––about then I became.
Way back, in ancient Egypt––it was my true domain.
My image was cast in stone. Massive. Colossal. To last.
For future generations. Presumptuous? My influence was vast!
Then I became heavenly. As Mafdet well… divine.
Later with grace abundant, I became goddess Bast.
They changed my name so often… frankly, it was a shame,
Yet––not being a rose––what is there in a name?
I also ruled souls in India––you’ll find me in Mahabharata.
I dodged sword of Ezekiel; had Welsh king Dda pass law…
just to protect my skin. Ah, those were the days of fun…
(I’m not boring you, am I? My story’s almost done).
At long last I grew tired; I also grew fur––rich’n black.
Once baffling Nefertiti (and other kings and queens),
now I’m in charge of mysteries. I rule witches and quacks.
And should you not believe me, I’ll turn you into ducks.
