Summer's End Summer’s end is not the corn dolly hanging from barn rafters. No booming fireworks eulogize her. No riderless horse drags her effigy through the harvest parade . . . Rather she comes uneventfully, softly, in creeping fog and morning glories, in the unfolding of little back yards strung with empty clotheslines, and in the sudden urge to bake apples. A quiet requiem, summer’s end. By Lisa Lindsey
