But that is only half the truth, for in a sense, great wealth confers almost as great a freedom as base poverty, and having everything is very like to having nothing; and so the states of wealth and poverty are spiritually equivalent. Those of us who by choice compromise in life and minimize risks to safeguard the little we have are surely the most pitiful creatures, abandoning to destruction our souls for so little, giving up our dreams in exchange for the chains that bind us. I hope this Haiku speaks to you before it is too late, or at least so that our children may be warned...
