Standing still, savouring spring's soothing scents,

My old bones 'n flesh are filled with spring's spirit.

Laying to rest gloomy winter's laments,

The warmth of sun relived sighs elicit.

In a riot of colours shrubs are dressed,

Trees in bloom, trimmed lawns gleam like emeralds,

With promise of plenty fruit trees are blessed,

And the gentle spring a warm summer heralds.

Standing still, savouring spring's soothing scents,

Watching white clouds upon the firmament,

Oblivious to harsh winter's laments,

My heart and soul is filled with contentment,

Till light breeze brings an unwelcome whisper…

…Fading hopes mixed with old age's despair…
