This poem was written for a contest with these suppled lines.
Yesterday's gone like a cloud of dreams
Though I know not where it went-
Leaving bitter sweet memories
Of hope and laughter spent;
A rhythm of passion and cruel loss
That slowly bleeds my soul,
And pounds in time with broken heart
To coldly take their toll.
These figments of the mind-
Like dead petals on the wind-
Whirl and twirl like smoke and fire
To a song that never ends.
Choked up by these shattered dreams,
I build a heart of stone-
As soft and passionate they rise
To caress me with their woe.
Eyes as cold as ice No more... wishful thinking on my part Not desired emotions - sent Managed to break my heart Now all our laughter spent Shattered dreams Nothing is as it seems Haunted by indelible bittersweet memories Adding insults to injuries You turned out to be such a heel Left me with a heart as hard as tempered steel Not diamond encrusted after all... a cheap veneer No sweet caress... just a broken hearted tear
The song that you sing no joy can bring A symphony of lies The truth ~ in the falseness of our ties To be ripped asunder By a clap of thunder Smoke and fire; whirling and twirling in the night Shedding so little light Memories burnt into my brain The cause of so much pain Just like before, you made me cry You tell me no truths - why? Playing me like a fiddle Creating an almighty muddle With figments of the mind in turmoil The tempest... unleashed, beware the recoil
