This poem, also in my book, Love and Liberation, holds special meaning to me. It was written at a time when I discovered one of my exes was not being honest with me. Rather than get bent out of shape and angry, I put my feelings on paper.

LIED

We talked about love and being happily ever after,
But you lied and it all started the moment you met her.
We talked about honesty and standing by each other strong,
But you lied and now my trust in you is completely gone.
You said “I do,” “I will,” and you will commit only to me,
But you lied and instead you chose a path of infidelity.
You said she’s just a friend and there’s nothing else to it,
But you lied over and over; I guess she made you do it.
How many other friends have you brought into our bed,
And how many of them have you lied to me about instead?
Nonetheless, I wish you happiness and much success, too.
No, you don’t deserve that, so I guess I just lied to you.
