A Matter of Perspective This song was written many years ago. It’s as beautiful as any could be. But is it really a song at all if it has no melody? This piece—it flows like none other; it is rare, soft, rich, and colorful. It draws you in, entices, intoxicates; you cannot resist its pull. It was written by the Master wordsmith; he gave this one meticulous care. He arranged it just so, because he knew the perfect melody was somewhere. This melody could be likened to a young man, who was warm, loving, and sweet. Yet he had a stormy past which followed him and unnerved most whom he would meet. This melody has color—black pain; red passion; feelings of purple, moments of blue. Since the Master had designed it, he filled that beautiful song with these colors too. Now the Master wordsmith decided one day that each one was somehow incomplete. And he arranged for his beautiful song and this excellent melody to meet. When he put the two of them together, it was like fire from the start. They were a mixture of dynamic energy and erotic flavor—that’s what you call art! This tune that was composed—it resonated so powerfully. This collaboration needed no adjustment; it was in the perfect key. Then people other than the Master changed some notes and some words, but you see, The song was no longer as beautiful; neither was the melody. I ask each of you here today, have you ever heard that song which spoke to your soul, The song that gave you chills whenever it played, because you felt the story it told? Well, what if your song was taken apart—would you consider it a tragedy, That in one hand you have only words, and in the other a lonely melody? Either one could stand alone, either could be paired with another; it’s true . And odds are they would still make beautiful music of different types too. But this song has touched so many; look around the room at one another. It was designed by the Master composer—each piece hand-picked for the other. Perhaps I should rethink my question. The answer to the first one has to be yes. A song is always a song, and a melody is always a melody I guess. But this isn’t just any song; that beautiful song written years ago is me. And I’m not half as beautiful or powerful as I could be, if I’m without my melody.
