SITTING HERE AT MY DESK
Sitting here at my desk
Limp and lifeless
Trying not to look out the window
Trying not to think about the confining walls
That surround me
I feel claustrophobic
Because the walls seem to be closing in on me
Sitting here at my desk
Scared to look out the window
And partake in nature’s beauty
As I sit in this chair
Slowly dying
Inhaling the negative, used air
Of others on a daily basis
In my 15 story building
When I long to be outside
Being resuscitated
By the pure breath of Mother Nature
Sitting here at my desk
Listening to the sound
Of every tick and tock
As the second hand
Slowly journeys around the clock
As each minute passes
The sound becomes more and more
Deafening
Mind bending
Alter ego rendering
Sitting here at my desk
Patiently waiting for 5 o’clock
Which is the time I am released
From what seems to be my daily cell block
Sitting here at my desk
I start to think about the thousands
And millions of people
That would love to have my problem
So I proudly punch out for another day
Loved the twist at the end!
Blessings,
Sharon
