COMMON BOND
By April Sims © 2006
Every day during the week
For the past couple of months
I have come to visit you
You seem to look forward
To my visits
As I stare at you
And you stare at me
Neither of us ever says a word
But we both understand one another
Because we share a common bond
We both wish and yearn to be FREE
We both would like to experience
What truly being FREE is like
Free to roam Mother Nature’s green pastures
And live off the land that has been provided for us
Taking just enough to sustain us
Nothing more
Nothing less
Nothing wasted
Admiring the great beauty and wonders of the world
Without passports, visas or penalties
For one hour a day we share the same dream
FREEDOM
Then the zookeeper comes to get you
And takes you back inside
My lunch hour is over
It is also time for me to go back inside
