This is a tribute to three of my favorite poets; The Poetry, Lady Wisdom and Rhyme Cypha

ODE TO THREE POETS (THE REAL ME)

By April Sims © 2006

The first poet dares to dream

She dreams of owning her own spot

A books and poetry café

I agree with her . . . that concept is hot

And in order for her to obtain this dream

She puts on her armor

And gets down on her knees

Because she truly believes

That no weapon formed against US shall prosper

And hops on endless open mics like the energizer bunny . . .

Like a bear tirelessly searching for honey

And it does not matter how many obstacles

Are placed in her way because

They only jerk her back into her mental purpose

This is reality and not some made up fallacy

The second poet slits his wrists on

Napkins

   Receipts

And

    Multi-colored pages

Bathing them in multi-colored ink that leaks from his soul

Many times causing him to hemorrhage on stages

For minimum or no wages

So everyone will know what his name is

And he can leave a positive legacy for the next generation

That graces this nation

The third poet has knelt down and cried while

Preaching

  Teaching

and

    Acting

Out his life on many stages

With many people watching

Revealing that some among us . . . some among us

Conspire against us

Because they fear us

And all because they want to be just like us

While down on his knees

He asks the Father to please . . . forgive the conspirators

Because they know not what they do

He prays that they work with us

And get to know us

Because ultimately who WE worship is the same

WE just call him by a different name

Many do not have it like me

Because they do not know the daily struggles of the three

Most are on the outside looking in

But that does not stop them from lending . . . their opinion

They do not know me

Or the three that dwell outside as well as within me

And I invite them who question the three and me

To break bread with WE

To get to know the real WE

Because without WISDOM there can be no pure and everlasting CIPHER (Cypha)

And together "WE" are GREATER than "i"

And THE POETRY MANnnnnnnnn is what we

Spit

  Bleed

and

   Cry

Ultimately our goal is to S.L.A.M. everyone

By

Spreading

  Love

    And

      Messages

of UNITY

Until WE finally become ONE community
