I was eating honey roasted peanuts, while reading a contract at work and all of a sudden I felt the urge to write the following words from beginning to end; non-stop.

MILK STILL DRIPPING FROM THEIR LIPS

(C) 2007 BY APRIL SIMS

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

Our uncle tells our daughters and sons

That they can’t kill legally on the streets of the United States

And entices them to get into helicopters

To be shipped like freight

To other countries to annihilate

Entire villages

Too young to deal with the spillage

Of human lives

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

Sent overseas to chop down family trees

Trees that once bore fruit of legacies

Now the trees have been uprooted

Never to bear fruit again

Their innocent lives extinguished

By the stroke of a pen

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

They quickly find themselves in Dorothy’s shoes

No longer in Kansas

Fully awake . . . not dreaming

Unable to hit snooze

This is their new reality

Their new nightmare

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

They were told they were going on one tour

And when they ask when will their tour ends

The answers they keep receiving is . . . uhm . . . we’re not sure

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

We only hear about what a good job they're are doing over there

Protecting and serving the United States

But no one ever talks about what makes them shake

No one ever talks about the lies they were fed

That makes most of them wish they were dead

Taking their own lives . . . better know as suicide

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

They watched the commercial

You know the one that implied

Video games could be a rehearsal

And all they had to do

Was sign their names on the dotted line

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

They left out one small detail . . .

In video games no one truly dies

Because they can earn bonus lives

Or turn the game off and start again

In this real life game the end is the end

In between child and adult

Milk still dripping from their lips

Old enough to smoke

But not old enough to drink

Barely 21

And armed with a gun

I can still hear them cry

On the other end of a gun

Another one has fallen

A tragic tale that has replayed itself throughout history in just about every country and still no one learns the lessons of the past. Excellent write....

Be safe,

Peace and Blessings Karla~

I was condemning those that sent the babies to war. I feel the powers to be are feeding the babies lies and when they get to the war zone it is a different story.

I want all the babies to come home. Believe me I have lost many to senseless wars.

There was a local Army commercial here that eluded to if you want to bring video games to life then join the Army.

I truly understand that many are signing up to serve their country for the right reasons and I applaud them.

I am driving home the age to let the world know that these are young innocent lives that we are sending into battle and I do not believe it is fair.

Young people whose hormones have not settled yet, because they are still being sculpted, still growing.

Thank you so much for sharing your loyalty.

April,

As a Veteran, I do not feel I was being fed a bunch of lies. I served my country proudly, as do the majority of those who are in the military. I was not carrying a gun (but did--still do--smoke), running the streets. No one is telling us the truth about the enemy, who will stab you in the back as soon look at you, who will strap bombs to their children and use the elderly, the disabled, as human shields in order to kill OUR guys and gals, and then celebrate the deaths of infidels.

They are not being told the truth about God and discipline being removed from school, church and home. They are not being told the truth about parents having to work two jobs to afford to give anything they want to their precious little darlings.

Sorry--you got me on a tangent. Instead of condemning those who are fighting for our freedoms, we need to be pissed off at those sending our babies into war. Do you see the leaders going in? Nope.

A powerful expression of feelings, but not mine. I can't agree with you here.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

We need to put discipline and prayer (i.e. GOD~) back into our nation; otherwise we wouldn't be in this mess! Very powerful write, Arpil; keep on writing and speaking OUT!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your Texas friend, Karen Lynn. :(

This poem's content is heart-breaking. Throughout history our young go off to war "milk still dripping from their lips" and many die with the milk still on their lips.

This poem is so true so many young lives lost and for what?
As the song says will we never learn?
