THE FLOGGING
© by April Sims
I never cried when he flogged me
I just lay there as still and gentle as a lamb
As he lifted his hand with all his might
And then struck me on the left
And then on the right
Sometimes I thought my young body
Would shut down from all the pain
That’s when I would close my eyes
And slowly float away to another plane
Refusing to shed a tear
As he struck me again and again
He would stop his flogging when he was exhausted
Then he would leave
And typically go get a beer and cigarette
Leaving me limp and lifeless on the bed
Never once checking to see if I were dead
Millions of our children are being subjected to the above every day. I pray before it is too late that someone will see the signs and steps in before it is too late.
Growing up I had my share of whuppins but like Edwin, they were well deserved and never worse than nessesary.

Well penned even though it saddens my heart. Yes, we need to be aware and let the authorities know before it escalates to the point of death.
