just words
are a man's dreams
just his dreams
was my purple jacket
my love beads
my floor length black cape
all my street theatre dancing
were they just stains
water refrains
upon broken glass
watercolor or cold paper
soft illusions calling
to a poet dreaming
of being a man
no fear of time
wind across
old wrinkled fingers
dreaming words
onto his rice paper quiet
ocean water warm
bottled north atlantic storm
where
a poet's tears
are never just tears
where
a man's years
as
a dancing child
is a child without fears
A lot of questions raised. Why does the poet dance? Is a lot like why mountain climbers constantly seek higher goals… "Because it's there."
You will never know if the answers to your questions exist. While Ginsberg will be largely remembered for a single poem, Howl, that single poem will guarantee that all of his work will be cherished for a long time. As to whether or not your persona and your poetry will last beyond your posting here, only time will tell.
Maybe, you're defining poem will not be written until you are literally unable to write it like Beethoven's music to Friedrich Schiller's poem, "Ode to Joy," in the last year of his life when he couldn't hear what he was composing.
