just 1960 hippies lost within
their own shadows
no one left dancing
on height ashbury street

encroaching fog
if one stands still
listening to a long song
riding a vw mini-bus dream
beautiful souls
sweeter strawberries
a distance in your memory
young girl carried in a shell
lost to shattered
cold eyes
such those ever rides
long hills
deep river forest
ocean smells
blue sighs
so near
past midnight
keeper of the flames
holds the light

While I got no rhyme while reading, I got a lot of reason. I'm so glad I was there on the scene in 1966-68 when it was all happening all around even though I was square as could be, I was drawn to the ocean, the hills, the streets, the ambience and the freedom. The Fillmore was alive then. The Dead were playing free concerts in Panhandle Park. While I was getting high on the music at People's Park and the Pleasanton Fairgrounds with bands as live as they could be. For many, it was a dream that never came true. For me it was the experience that I vicariously enjoyed without having to suffer the consequences. And the music lives on… I hear it every day and sing along. "if you're going to San Francisco…" "Come on people now, love one another…"
