I watched Oprah's special and was moved to write a response. This can, however, have a universal application -omit Oprah, omit daughters, omit Africa and own this as yours.

In silent amazement I watched you
Awestruck by your strength, bravery and purpose
And I was proud that I am of your heritage
Strong, tall and regally, a black woman

You stand on the threshold of your destiny
Ready to embrace the opportunities
Wanting to be an instrument of redemption
To your kindred and to your nation

Strong black daughters I encourage you to stand
With life’s passion in your heart, I know you can
I see the flame that flickers, that burns deep within
Strong black daughters that passion will make you win

Over the obstacles that came your way, day by day
“Make them my stepping stones, O God,” you prayed.
You prayers were answered, you were give a chance
Triumphantly you shouted and in victory you danced

“I am a leader, yes, yes Africa I know I am
As a daughter of greatness, I know I can
Lead you into a future of purpose, not one of shame
I am Oprah’s daughter , I’ll bring honor to her name
