The reviews for this are overwhelming. I must confess. This poem is not written from MY point of view.

I am the mother of eight boys. When one of them reached the age to "register" the reality of being a soldier's mother hit me.

It was then that I wrote this piece...A poem for mother's of soldiers.

My only son was called to fight.
My heart tries to be brave.
He flies away into the night,
For freedom, he must save.

I kiss goodbye my only son.
Saddened to see him go,
I ask him why he has to leave,
But deep inside I know.

I raised him with a gentle hand,
And taught him wrong from right,
Then instilled in him his honor.
His honor makes him fight.

I believe God answers prayer.
My prayer, is prayed each day,
Please keep my one and only son,
Held safely from harm’s way.

Watch our children; give them courage.
Their lives lay on the line,
A nation of sons and daughters,
But Lord, just one is mine.

So give to me the gallantry,
my tears to put aside,
And whether or not he comes home,
To hold my head with pride.

For freedom, he gives sacrifice,
And yes, I give it too.
For I gave birth to just one son,
Who gives his life to you.

So in this battle for freedom,
Help me face what is true .
Because my son is a soldier.
I am a soldier too.
