Sometimes sorry is not enough

How can I say I am sorry
When it falls on deaf ears?
To think I hurt another
Whose friendship I treasure so much
Cuts to me to the quick

Sometimes I am so caught up
In this life that is before me
That I am lost in my thoughts
Unaware that others may value
What I have to say

I feel so unworthy
So inadequate to utter a word
To one who is so much more
Than I ever hope to be

So even though it is not enough
Sorry is all I can say
I can only hope
That it takes the hurt away
