At play in the garden of words. Published by Coffee Press Journal in 2005. Copyright to J. Donald Coonrod.

A river runs through it – sewer spurts and bursts.

Avant-garde – so far ahead of its time it makes no sense at all.

Burping – giving burp to.

Churning – dairies, poets and stock
brokers do it.

Counter culture – coffee shop chatter
where a platter is a phonograph record,not a cheese.

Crumbs for thought – half a loaf is
better than naught.

Detritus – if at first you don’t
succeed, detritus, detritus again.

Feeling of impending doom – comes when
you’re locked in a tomb.

Filet-a-sole I – a hole in your shoe.

Filet-a sole II – tear jerker role on
TV.

Gobble-de-gook – turkey soup for the
soul.

Groupies – splatter a lot when they
talk.

Gropies – feel you up when you’re down.

Makeover – ugliness replaced by
mugliness.

Moving sidewalk – fresh cement with a
jogger in it.

Multitasking – stewardess surprised to learn she will now fly the plane.

Poetry in the round – poems written on doughnuts.

Potpourri of sound – musical porridge tossed around.

To tell the truth – nasty,at first
misunderstood as nice.

Tit-for-tat – breast augmentation and all that.

Zane Grey – his horses all gone away (to a glue factory).
