The first and second stanza of this poem was my prison mantra to help maintain my prison face and the necessary demenial stance so important to staying out of the 'hole'.
My first name is Inmate,
My second a number,
And just in case
You don’t remember,
When you tell me
That you really care,
Please check you motives,
If you dare.
I see you for who
You truly be,
Using stale words
To placate me.
The surface fluff
Is your operative tool.
So don’t say you care !
I’m not a fool.

Been there done that. Just a fact. I does have a habit of broading your mind, however, if you will but allow that broadening to happen . . . Seems you have . . .
Kind'a hard for a case-worker to really care about a con eh?? I don't know about operative tools but my brother is a prison Psych. and most everything he hears is B.S. I hope you do the 'right' things and that life treats you fairly.
Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
