Cyber Love

Cyber love is a figment of our imagination.
A wonderful fantasy of our individual creation.
I bought all the lines that came to own me.
Never understanding the feelings that I couldn't see.

Never realizing my heart he was stealing.
Too caught up in the overwhelming feeling.
Some people need a lesson to learn.
I got mine and can still feel the burn.

I never allow myself to make the same mistake twice.
So don't read more into my words because I'm just being nice.
I can be your friend but my secrets you"ll never know.
Inside of my heart is someplace you will never go.

Even when you believe you are very close to me.
A superficial women is all you will ever see.
So don't ask me for love or something else I don't feel.
I'm not trying to be a bitch ,I'm just keeping it real.

Everything that matters is what I won't share.
So don't be foolish and begin to really care.
Please ask nothing from me except some casual chat.
Because that is all I have to give..nothing but that.

I'm so much wiser and I know this thing is just a screen.
And the cyber world is only what we allow it to mean.
I love to chat with many people still.
You can never reach my heart and time is all that you can fill.

I've many cyber friends..one stimulates my mind.
Making me think of answers I never knew I'd find.
Some make me laugh and some leave me in tears.
One interested in hearing of my fears.

And I can be very naughty.
Or very callous and haughty.
But I'm keeping it on the real.
You will never make me feel.

I can be whatever I choose to be.
Or maybe whatever you wish to see.
If you leave the computor and your still thinking of me.
You had better take it as a sign to break free.

I can talk the talk even when you can't see.
If you are looking for more than just let me be.
It's not my intent to hurt anyone.
I not looking for love ,just a little bit of fun.

Bitter truths! I have seen so many cyber-friends (male and female)shattered by 'great loves' who disappear into the ether from whence they came.

Robin, such honesty and strong principles! I love it! With cyber love its true one can be dishonest to the next person. People will say what you want to hear and will be what you want them to be. Do read my short story - Computer Love - she met her man alright ... no more said. Ahem.

God bless, Robin!

Sandie.

You bring up a serious problem in our world right now in this poem. Before we had electronic communication it was not so easy to fool others, because people had the chance to get a read on a person with more than words (appearance, gestures, vibrations, sounds). Now you are left to judge on the basis of words on a screen. There are those very clever with words who can totally mislead you. I expect no one should fool with the internet unless he has firmly developed thoughts and opinions of his own.

Welcome to 2005 where love can be as frivolous as a computer and as cold as the net.I really loved your poem, the way you described the reality of feelings and the fantasy in imagination.Anne Pawlak.Ps:also adored the title,an eye-opener on modernity.

Robin, that's a very good poem. It reveals so much and is very honest. I got caught up in reading it and just flowed along with it. This is pretty cool. Because now I can feel safe in saying I love you without worrying about you pulling some "Fatal Attraction" syndrome on me. LOL. I'm just kidding. But you really do have a knack for conveying meaning and message with your poetry. Keep up the good work my fellow writer.
