My Eyes Can See Original Date: 04/03/98

The scent is in the air

there’s gonna be a showdown,

Saddam is on a war path

it's only just begun.

Something’s hushed a terror in the wind

zapping my energy sucking me in

Can’t let go won’t go under

I breathe the same air as the sea

to be one with nature is what I long to be.

Can’t let go... won't go down.

a sun-beaten face etched in despair.

Is that my reflection I see

oh lord... Is this me?

Death is the only thing left that's free.

Can't pull it over my eyes can see

what this world is doing to me.

Wrenching hands, staring eyes,

for what I see will be our demise.

Hi Jeanette,
I can't really quarrel with your poem or your observations, did you ever consider going a little bit further back in Iraqi history say back to 1926, or maybe the slaughter of the Iraqi kurds by the Turk's.
Just a thought.all the best. Morchuis
