Why Thanksgiving Day, some might say

Why not Monday instead of Thursday

Why the turkey and sweet potato pie

Why so much fuss, you’d think someone just died

Why gather among so many family members and folks faking like friends

Why come home stuffed like that turkey, eating that much was a sin

Now you’re dropping Alka Seltzer and running off at both ends  

You’re calling on the name of Jesus, help me – I won’t do this again!

Surprised - I’m sure you’re not, cause you’ve been down this road before

Coming to a place of crisis then calling on the Lord.

It’s not just that you overate, or paid your car note late

It’s all the other things you did wrong and you knew the Lord would hate.

It’s all the un-kept promises, I know God hoped that we would fulfill

It’s all the lost opportunities to do good and not to show ill will.

I wonder why HE keeps stepping in, when we’ve clearly lost our way

Maybe it’s because HE looks forward - to THANKSGIVING DAY.
