The Marriage Binding
In youthful folly
I bound my life to his
with gauze of trust
wound round
and round,
more loosely
as time narrowed.
Weary, I watched
as worn threads unraveled,
exposing the festering growth.
With sadness I realized
why gauze was the binding.
Wisdom released the final wisps.
Two ruptured lives fell away.
