Rump, rump - Rump, rump

From my latest, unpublished book. Aging.

An old Shaker rocker, bobs forth and back

Near the loft window, making rhythmic arcs

Her hands, folded in her lap

Gazing into yesterday's views

A steady rump,rump - rump,rump

Pine rockers oscillating across oaken floor spaces

These days are harsh, friends too few

Realities stark view, when you've outlived your peers

Ninety-two years, loves and tears

Warmth comes from Earl Gray in a cup

A woolen sweater about her shoulders

For her lover's embrace

A duo unfit for the task

Seasons in the sun

With family,friends recalled

She gazes out the window, enthralled

Great grandchildren keep the wits of her keen

Their vitality entering her frail figure

With each maternal embrace, smile of their face

Future times she longs for these days

When beyond earth's haze

With loved ones above

She connects on the wings of a dove

Rump,rump - rump,rump

This is so tender a glimpse at a beloved one who has lived beyond the usual years. Beautifully penned, brought my tears.

...you have given us the back and forth of time...as one rocking remembers all that she has lived...and of a flight...to one day visit her loved ones.
endearing and wonderful write Jon...

I like the softness of this poignant write...as if while rocking, the view of her life is softened through a lace curtain...

A sort of quiet hush evolopes this lovely piece with the lonely sound of a wooden rocking chair gently swaying. Memories of lives long past, yet vivid in the mind with a wealth of stories to savor and pass on. A lover of rocking chairs for the peace and solitude they conjure, your imagery is crystal clear in this masterful piece.....

Be always safe,
Karen

A lovely piece... I enjoyed reading; I have an aunt who just turned 100 this past October and who, I might add, is still enjoying life... she tells me upon each visit, "always keep your trust in God"... I listen, she "must" know!

I liked the way you portrayed the rocking chair as a beating heart rump, rump – rump, rump...Gerard

aging is evil.
i worked in a resthome for 5 years... i was aged 18-23 and i had a blast. the old ladies loved me coz i was always bringing in crazy stories from the outside and they all owned me as a granddaughter.
but the one thing they all said, between moments of telling me about their youth and loves and lives, was "jayde...NEVER get old!"

this is a good piece.
capturing the reality of aging well.
