Here's to Twenny-Twenny-Six, replete with all its pending tricks...

by Kalikiano Kalei — Read all 118 poems by Kalikiano Kalei

I had a pleasant New Year's Eve, shared with my spiritual buddy EEYORE. The juices flowed freely...both ETOHic and poetic...and we commiserated with each other as the clock struck 13 at mitternacht. May all your dreams turn from dust to quicksand, as the New Year predictably unfolds like Octopodal tentacles around a Clownfisch!

Poem Artwork

The calendar turns its heavy page,

A shallow trade of cage for cage.

The bitter dregs of twenty-five,

Are all that keep our ghosts alive.

The Kiev mud still swallows red,

A harvest sown with endless dead.

While DC's halls, corrupt and grey,

Will barter all our lives away.

Your hollow hopes and fragile dreams,

Are tearing at their rusted seams.

No light awaits, no peace is found,

Just deeper holes in frozen ground.

So toast the dawn of twenty-six,

The same old rot, the same cruel tricks.

The year is new, the pain is vast,

A perfect mirror of the last.

A lot of truth in your words. The image is clearly the Russian bear, largely the ego of a single man, using the power of office to do his bidding. Sound familiar?

I think it's time that we actually reinforce the punishment of war crimes wherever they occur, with friend or foe.

I would like to see "all is fair in love and war" recognized for what it really is. Preying on the weaker because one can and get away with it. The classic example of the under achieving bully.
