Poem Artwork

First breath, fort smith
on a snowy afternoon
willits to cecile street
south bay, the wedding
east bay to chico
shakey's chicks, birth of a son
the big valley to north bay
seasons of my father
politics, wine, the divorce.

The river, where everything
unknown became known.
high tea at withywindle
a failed love, a lost love
the candlelight vigil
main street lullaby
birth of a grandchild
naked writings
ladies of the penhouse.

Into the desert, vegas
land of perpetual light
where everything known
became unknown.
the color of mango
I look to the moon
seeking familiar.
cicadas buzz in mesquite
mojave palette
magik connects with spirit
ancient ones guide my way
to friends tarnished, laudably.

Beautifully written. Flashes in time - years, even decades, recorded in and often remembered in only a moment. Entire lives - flashes in time - only moments to infinity. I relate to the idea of "passing through." Your last stanza is particularly wonderful to me not only in expression, but in consciousness.

Leslie, this is poetry as it should be writ. The road to
Infinity in three marvelously fresh stanzas. If this hasn't
been published, I hope you'll see to it soon. The New Yorker
springs to mind. -gene.
