A rhyming poem about the physical traits of humans; a poem meant to be thought-provoking.

Human Physical Traits

The human eye’s iris color may be
amber, blue, gray, green, hazel, red, or brown.
When another’s eye color we may see
to differ from ours, it doesn’t make us frown.

A person’s hair color may be some shade
of black, brown, red, auburn, blond, gray or white.
Some even will become bald, I’m afraid.
Over hair color, we don’t want to fight.

People come thin or fat and short or tall.
We are tolerant of all body types.
We mind these above traits hardly at all.
Differences in them lead to few gripes.

Yet, one human trait leads many to hate.
Skin color may be a variation
of white, yellow, red, brown, or black by Fate.
This trait alone brings discrimination.

What a better world surely it would be
if the color of one’s skin, eyes, and hair
were treated all the same, with each trait free
from undue bias. Will Man arrive there?

Will someday Mankind ever realize
we all are Human Beings, all the same?
This improved state can materialize
if we will stop our ignorant skin game.

Poetic format: quatrains with lines 1 and 3, 2 and 4 end-rhymed, 10 syllables per line)

You have made your point in a very gentle and direct way similar to the poem that I am seeing on television by Maya Angelou. You are in good company.

However, if ever I see someone with red irises, I will immediately try to find a cross, holy water, silver bullets for my pistol or a wooden stake, because I know (I've seen a lot of horror movies) that people who have those color eyes are definitely, evil.

On the other hand, it could just be one of those theatric contact lens props. So, if I see some red eyes I'm going to ignore them like they are… Nevermind.

Just as there are different sizes, shapes and colors, people are different inside, too. What care I which color you are? I love my fellow man. However, the man across the street might hate me because I am a different color than he is. Why? I submit that it is that thing we don't like to address, known as sin. When one obeys Jesus Christ, loving one another, colors blend and become one in Him. How beautiful if your thoughts of a "better world" would come true. I fear it will not take place until Christ comes back to reign.

Sorry Harry, I don't think utopia will ever come to pass. If anything we are drifting in the other direction.
