Before the Kids Come Home
Drama in your voice,
you got off the phone,
quickly,
out of breath.
Rushing to the shower,
I scoured my body with soap,
hearing your voice again,
"Come over before
the kids get home."
Two hours, two hours
to hold you, to touch
your skin, to memorize
the feel of your soul.
Two hours, two hours, and
the big truck rumbled
down the country road
and I stumbled
out of breath.
Opening the screen door,
you stood backlit by the sun,
the sheer fabric of your dress
revealing everything,
two hours, two hours
with you.
