Report Card Missing
Katie and Mary exited,
the bus waited,
bus driver watching
carefully.
each carried papers,
works
of art,
some ribbons from a
spelling bee
(Katie finished second),
their final report cards
held tight in
little hands.
across the dirt road they walked,
laughing, Mary breaking out
in a run.
But then, their old
daddy raced from the trees
to their side,
ripping the papers away,
then climbiing into
his vehicle, leaving
his kids screaming.
Inside her home, Jen watched,
her heart beating
hard, tight,
her fear rising.
"Oh, Jack, come home,"
she cried.
